“The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act was a law that was passed in the 1970s and states that it’s not legal to require the use of a manufacturer part or service in order to maintain a warranty,” says Keith Barry, Consumer Reports’ autos editor. “You can have your car serviced anywhere and still maintain the manufacturer’s warranty. You can bring the car to a place like Jiffy Lube, to an independent shop, or even another dealership that’s not the same car brand as your car.” If an employee of a dealership tells you the car has to be serviced at their dealership, it should be reported and discouraged. Complain to the dealer and the car manufacturer and let them know what the employee is doing. You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, which sometimes leads to the dealership being warned by the FTC. 
Ultimately, have your car worked on by a reputable shop, whether at the dealership or elsewhere, that will stand behind their work. And keep the receipts, just in case.

  2.  How does the quality of after market parts compare with original equipment parts?
     Some are manufactured by the same supplier and may even be warranted longer than original equipment (OE) parts. Some aftermarket (AM) parts supplied meet or exceed manufacturers' specifications.

 3.  What do I have to do to keep my car or truck's warranty in effect?
     Make sure your vehicle is serviced at the intervals specified in your owner's manual or warranty booklet and keep clear records of your vehicle's maintenance. Be sure to have the date, parts installed, vehicle identification number and mileage recorded on the invoice. Keep these receipts in a safe place. If you have a service log in your owner's manual or warranty booklet, use it.

  4. What parts should be replaced and at what intervals should these services be performed?
Check your owner's manual. It will give you all of the information you need regarding specific parts and service intervals. Make sure to read it thoroughly and note any exceptions or severe service notations. Warranties are there to protect the consumer, but you must follow the requirements.

 5.  What if my new car needs repairs other than regularly scheduled maintenance such as a brake job or other repairs?  Do I have to return to the dealer for these repairs? What if these repairs are covered under my warranty?
      The choice of where to have your car serviced and repaired is yours. However, sometimes you will probably have to take the car back to the dealer for any repairs covered under there warranty. Thoroughly check your warranty to be certain which repairs are covered.

 6. My car is a leased vehicle. Am I responsible for maintenance?
     Even if you lease a vehicle you are responsible for all maintenance and repairs to keep the vehicle in good working order as outlined in the owner's manual.

 13. Power steering fluid
Check your power steering fluid. If it is low, make sure to add the right fluid. Check your owners manual as to not cause a system failure by adding the wrong fluid.  If there is any doubt have a mechanic check it for you.
 14. Automatic transmission fluid
With the engine running and in park with the park brake set check the automatic transmission fluid level. Also check the color and smell. If it is dark and has a burnt odor it needs further examination. You should have the oil and filter changed every 30,000 miles or according to your owners manual.
15. Oil and coolant leaks
Look around and under the engine and transmission area for any sign of leakage. Seepage and minor leaks may not be worth repairing, but at least you will have a good idea as to the problem if it gets worse. If you find a coolant leak, it should be repaired as soon as possible. This not only will save a breakdown but is an environmental issue as well.   If there is any doubt have a mechanic check it for you.
16. Battery
Make sure that the top of the battery is clean. A battery can lose its charge if there is dirt between the positive and negative posts. If there is corrosion on the battery posts this needs to be cleaned off.  Baking soda is the best thing to break down this corrosion. Mix some with water and brush on with an old paint brush. Then thoroughly flush with water until all the corrosion is gone. You can buy anti corrosion rings or a battery post aerosol to help keep the corrosion from forming.  If your battery is one that you can check the electrolyte level in, you need to do so. Bring the level up to the full ring with distilled water. Most of the newer batteries are sealed and have a condition eye. This eye should be either green or blue. If it is black then this indicates a low charge. If the eye is clear or yellow, then the electrolyte is low and the battery needs to be replaced. This may also be a sign that the regulator is over charging the battery.
 17. Exhaust system
Look over the exhaust system for any lose bolts, loose mountings or cracks. Cracking around the muffler inlet or outlet is common. If caught in time this could save you from losing part of the exhaust system on a trail. Seeing a muffler on the side of a trail is not uncommon.

In knowing what to look for, you can check the condition of your transmission and axle gears, by looking at the fluid and not just checking the levels. On the drive axles the fluid is checked at the plug hole half way up on the differential housing or cover plate. The oil level is just to the bottom of the hole. Stick your finger in to get enough on it see if there is any metal flakes in the oil. If there is any metal in the oil, this can cause the bearings to fail and also the seals to leak. If caught early this can save a lot of money as well as a break down. The metal comes from the gears put under heavy load. And since there are no filters on these gear boxes, the only way to get rid of the metal flakes is to change the oil. This is true of the transmission and transfer case as well. The oil should not smell or look burnt. If you add to or change the oils in the differentials, transmission and transfer case, make sure you use the right oil. If you have a limited slip rear end you can damage the friction plates by using regular 90 weight oil. Also be very careful of the oil in the transfer case, some take A.T.F. while others use a heavier oil. If you find that the transfer case is low and the transmission is overfilled, you might have an internal leak.  If there is any doubt have a mechanic check it for you.
21. Brakes
From under the vehicle look at the brakes. See if there is any leakage on or around the brakes. This could be from brake fluid or an axle seal. The brake shoes should bee free of any oil contamination. You should lift up the vehicle and remove a wheel just as you would to change a flat. One at a time you should remove a front and a rear wheel.  ( Or complete Auto repair Service should do this for you)   If you have disc brakes look at the pads to see if they need to be replaced due to wear. The pads should have even wear top to bottom and inner and outer should be the same thickness. If they do not there is a problem with the caliper hanging up. On drum brakes it will be necessary to remove a drum as well to see the shoes.
22. Change oil and filter

Now is the time to change the oil and oil filter and check the grease lube points if needed. Always change the oil and filter at the same time.  Make sure to check your oil  at least once a month and keep it at the right level. Not doing so can burn up the engine.
24. Change fuel filter
25. Change air cleaner
Change the fuel and air cleaners at least once a year. If you drive on dusty roads this may have to be done more often.

Time to make sure your car is in good condition.

This is a list of some things you should check and get fixed so you will be ready when you want to pack up and head for the snow!

•Batteries are much weaker in cold weather, so keep your vehicle’s battery fully charged.

•Brakes should be checked and serviced if necessary. Even braking on all four wheels will lessen the chance of skids on slippery roads.

•Make sure your vehicle’s exhaust system has no leaks. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer and can accumulate quickly in closed vehicles.

•Make sure your wiper blades are in good condition. Keep the windshield washer reservoir filled with antifreeze solvent.

•Check the radiator, heater core and all hoses that carry anti-freeze solution to see that they are in good condition and free of leaks. Also check to see that the solution is good to at least 40 below zero.

•Make sure you have winter weight oil (usually 5W-30) in the engine.

•Tires should have M+S or All Season tread and be in good condition.

•Emergencies can happen when you least expect them, so be sure to carry a winter survival kit in your vehicle.

The fundamental rule is: treat all flags with respect and common sense.

• It is proper to fly the U.S. flag at night, but only if it is spotlighted.
• The U.S. flag should be in the center of a group of flags only when the center pole is taller than the others or when a fan-like arrangement makes the center pole higher than others.
• In a public gathering (lecture hall, church, etc.) the U.S. flag should be to the right of the speakers or on the wall behind them.
• A salute (hand over heart for those not in uniform) should be rendered when the flag is raised, lowered, or carried by on parade; or when the Pledge of Allegiance is played (unless the flag is not present).
• If one flag is at half-staff in mourning, other flags flown with it should be at half-staff. First raise the flags to their peaks, than lower to half-staff. The U.S. flag is raised first and lowered last.
• The U.S. flag takes precedence over all other flags when flown within the United States. It should not be flown lower than another flag nor should it be smaller than another flag flown with it. Other flags may, however, be flown at the same height and in the same size. Other national flags should not be smaller or flown lower than the U.S. flag when displayed together. If it is not possible to display two or more national flags at the same height, it is not proper to display them together at all.
• The point of honor is on the extreme left from the standpoint of the observer (the flag’s right). The order from left to right of flags flown together is: U.S. flag, other national flags in alphabetical order, state flags, county and city flags, organizational flags and personal flags.
• It is not illegal or improper to fly any flag (state, ethnic group, organization, etc.) alone but it is always preferable to display the U.S. flag at the same time.
• Displaying the flag with the canton on the left (canton is the blue field with the 50 stars): the canton of the flag should always be to the observers left. Over a street - when the U.S. flag is displayed other than from a staff, it should be displayed flat or suspended so its folds fall free. When displayed over a street, place the union so it faces north or east, depending on the direction of the street.
• Displaying a flag on a wall: when displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union should be uppermost and to the flag’s own right, that is to the observer's left. In a window, the union should be to flag’s right when viewed from outside.
• Displaying the flag with the canton on the right (canton is the blue field with the 50 stars): display the canton facing right when displayed as a decal on the right side of a vehicle (bus, truck, plane, etc.) or when worn as a patch on the right arm (but use on left arm is preferable).

#2 – Eliminate the death wobble. 

Although the attention-grabbing name (death wobble) may be a little overly dramatic, any Jeep — and, really any 4×4 — is likely to wobble at certain speeds, thereby causing a potentially dangerous situation in terms of rollover potential.

This wobbling, which occurs because of vibration in the front wheels, typically is the result of an overloaded front suspension system.  There are lot of special parts and add-ons when it comes to Jeeps. These components — such as lift kits or big tires — can easily throw off alignment.   It’s important to make sure that any stock parts are bolted down correctly and not interfering with the streamlining of your system.

#3 – Learn the Jeep wave.

 Spring Car Care Relief for Your Vehicle

Winter can be tough on lots of things, including cars and trucks. Cold temperatures, snow and ice, road salt and pothole-causing freeze-thaw cycles put car batteries, tires, brakes and suspensions to the test.

 Spring is the time to rid vehicles of winter's sins in time for summer travel.

Since 1970, Americans have more than doubled their vehicle miles traveled, according to federal statistics. In summer, many of those miles are logged on driving vacations far from home, the last place motorists want to risk a breakdown.

 "Regular vehicle maintenance and inspections can help improve a vehicle's fuel efficiency, achieve peak performance and even help avoid major repairs down the road," says Peter Lord, executive director, GM Service Operations.

 Vehicle owners can follow these tips to ensure their vehicles are ready to roll:

  Batteries: They work harder when it's cold, and winter can compromise their cranking performance up to 60 percent. Test and replace old or weak batteries, especially those more than three years old. It can be cheaper than a tow and replacement on the road.

 Tires / wheels: Cold weather can reduce tire pressure, so make sure all tires, including the spare, are properly inflated and balanced, and wheels are properly aligned. Inflate tires to their recommended pressure. Under-inflated tires can reduce fuel economy by up to 3.3 percent, cause premature tire failure and are a safety hazard. Tire failures and blowouts, often a result of under-inflation, contribute to 414 deaths and 10,295 injuries each year in the U.S., according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In addition to tire pressure, check for tread wear and any obvious damage caused by potholes or sharp objects.

 Belts and hoses: Inspect and replace worn or cracked belts, as well as hoses that are blistered, brittle or too soft. Belts and hoses older than five years, even if they look intact, might need to be replaced.

 Brakes: A spring checkup can uncover any winter damage. Inspect the brake system, including lines, hoses, and parking brake. Inspect brake fluid for proper level. Low brake fluid can be an indication of excessive brake wear or fluid leak. Have the brake linings/pads inspected and measured.

  Suspension: Deep potholes aren't friendly to shocks and struts. An inspection to determine wear or leaks can alleviate bigger issues down the road.

 Here are other items vehicle owners should have inspected in the spring:

□ Check oil level regularly.

□ Check the transmission fluid for correct level. Check the owner's manual or ask us, for the right type of transmission fluid to use and the proper interval for service and replacement.

□ Inspect power steering fluid for proper levels. Low power steering fluid can cause damage to the power steering system and lead to premature power steering failure.

□  Inspect windshield wiper blades for wear and cracks, ideally each spring and fall.9C.A.R.S) recommends replacement of blades that look worn. Also inspect and replace the rear wiper blade, if equipped. Don't forget to check the windshield washer fluid.

□ Inspect and replace as necessary the engine air filter and the cabin air filter.

 □ Inspect steering components and steering linkage.
